It feels important to post this message into here as well:

Michael Crichton 66
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) wrote:Michael Crichton, who helped create the TV show "ER" and wrote the best-sellers "Jurassic Park," "The Andromeda Strain," "Sphere" and "Rising Sun," has died in Los Angeles, his public relations firm said in a news release.

Crichton died unexpectedly Tuesday "after a courageous and private battle against cancer," the release said.

He was 66.

Crichton, a medical doctor, was attracted to cautionary science tales.

To see a lesser known but none the less stunning and thought provoking piece written by David Zabel and created by Michael Crichton, one only has to watch Time of Death. This story was a 2004 episode of ER where Ray Liotta plays Charlie Metcalf, an alcoholic suddenly made very aware of the journey he is on.

To really do Time of Death the justice and respect it deserves. It would be best to watch it as one full episode because it was shot in real time to encapsulate 45 minutes of a patient and crash team of a busy hospital emergency operating theatre in one roll. Some kind soul has posted it to Google videos as 7 clips. If you really want to watch Time of Death then this is ok-ish but it looks like there's a bit missing. Try and have each clip streamed so that as one ends, another starts. Here is the first link:

over-rated rip-off artist, anyway: just ask brunner, ellison, maclean, 2000ad, almost anyone else, most of whom died poor and unappreciated whilst crichton raised a few bucks on hollywoodland...

Shockwave Rider (Brunner) - stolen (Terminal Man)
Satan Bug (Maclean) - pinched (Andromeda Strain - good film tho')
2000AD - genetically recreated Dinosaur Park, T-Rex gets loose in Mega City One, Judge Dredd does a Bob Peck (but successfully) [or was that t'other way round, lol]... - ripped off!

etc...

Wee shite. Still, at least his GW Ain't Happenin' novel was original, if crap...

Oh wait, that reworked Bjorn Lomborg's gear didn't?

And WHAT a reactionary twat he is too. The GW story aside, Rising Sun was racist as heck weren't it?

;-)

Ah well then. I was wrong. I still enjoyed that ER episode. His death isn't an entire loss though. Whatever's left may become good compost, assuming he wasn't cremated...

Now, there's a topic for discussion:

Are the cremated dead complete bastards or wha?
