Unlike so many other animations out there, this isn't a computer generated masterpiece, but rather, a stock motion flick (think oldschool Sinbad films). It's dark, it's funny and surprisingly, a musical.
When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her.

Just been torturing my computer today, was learning the delicate art of transcoding, that is, taking a video file and converting it into a different format of video file, in this case, a dvd of The Corpse Bride, and reducing it down to a file that would fit on a CD.
You're thinking, the quality is going to be shocking though surely?
It isn't. In fact, with possibly one scene, I doubt you could tell the difference unless you had them side by side and on large screens.
I used the Xvid encoder suite with the DVDRip front end for linux, adjusted for scale it's now 660Megabytes in size (small enough to fit on a CD comfortably) and plays fine in VLC, Mplayer and probably something more mainstream like Windows Media Player. I learned a lot today, an awful lot about the processes involved.
Good to know my system was more then capable of handling the task without too much of an effort... total encode time was 3 hours 27 minutes to go from DVD (Mpeg 2 encoded) to Mpeg 4 video file (I was going to use h.264, but the software I had setup to do that puked on the DVD halfway through, in the end it didn't matter - the two were completely indestinguishable).
Or, in not techy terms - I took a dvd, shrunk it down so it'd fit onto a CD and did it in such a way as to leave the film looking and sounding great.

Ahhh. If only we could do that with governments. Then, hit the standby button and bathe in the silence and sunlight.
Feck! The hippie in me's breaking through again ..!
Finally got to see The Corpse Bride and all I can say is it's an absolute masterpiece. Wonderful acting, animation, soundtrack and story. A joy to watch and suitable for most age groups...
