When your boss is an arse
who picks a fight
and sacks you over nothing,
I'll be there...

When your wife gets beaten
by bricks and bats
on the street before your house
at midnight, I'll be there...

When your child gets bullied
and her teachers do nothing,
and she cries all day from
the pain, I'll be there...

When the shopkeeper is rude,
and gives you the wrong change
and sells you shoddy goods,
I'll be there...

When your neighbour throws
garbage all over your lawn,
plants needles under your hedge,
I'll be there...

You know those times,
when life is utter shit
and you can't get up in the morning,
I'll be there...

to beat on you, and harass you,
to park my car in your parking space
and laugh at all your misfortunes -
for I am Thatcher's child
I am the selfish gene
and I'll be there.

Great piece. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of contempt I have for Thatcher, suffice to say; I became politically aware at the time she allowed 10 Irish prisoners of war to die onhunger strikes rather than accept they were human beings with civil rights. I was 13 years old at the time. It was around about the same time some demented prick called Chapman shot John Lennon. Was there something in the air that we all breathed back then, something that wiped out any calls for equality or protests for a better world?

Thatcher was still in power when I left school and was farmed out into one of the many 'government training schemes'. Pure exploitation that set everyone who went through them up to believe they were worthless and would never achieve anything of importance.

Now, there's a 'New Labour Party' that is more conservative than Thatcher's Tories. May she die soon and politics / politicians fester in the shit they've run us all through.

Generally, I avoid the political poem. Mainly, they are heavy handed and boring.

Unfortunately this one wouldn't stay down.

"language isn't too good"? On the contrary. The language is spot on. It's hard to write about the Thatcher era and its consequences without sounding like Ben Elton, but you've managed it. A refreshing piece of writing that says it all.
