WASHINGTON -- Reporters who write about government surveillance could be prosecuted under proposed legislation that would solidify the administration's eavesdropping authority, according to some legal analysts who are concerned about dramatic changes in U.S. law.

But an aide to the bill's chief author, Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, said that is not the intention of the legislation.

Full story here.

Dunno about the rest of you, but given Blairs pooch like loyalty to Bush, and the frightening turn to authoritariansim this country has taken of late... I have to wonder when rather then if a similar bill will attempt to be passed over here...
Lively theme this one Alan. What intrigues me about this is; if they do get the go ahead to implement this fully, what will they do with stuff that's been written prior to the changes in law? Will they then be able to burn books and newspapers that have shown America or U.S. Policy in a bad lght at their discretion? Will they close websites that ask necessary questions of government? Why, when most of the world is utterly opposed to yet another war and pointless government restrictions, are they so hellbent on passing this? What do they have to or hope to hide?

You're right about Blair by the way... Any further up Bush's arse and he'd be peeking out of his mouth... Little shit..! How did New Labour ever stem from a Socialist perspective? Did we miss something? Why aren't people asking him 24/7 why he's deliberately putting people's lives at risk? If he chooses not to be honest and answer all of this, then it's only a matter of time before he's topped, and probably by someone he knows...

Censorship, counter-intelligence, surveillance... Call it what you like, is ridiculous and sets itself up for a fall everytime. I learned recently that if people become victims of crime they are not necessarily allowed access to footage that might be used to represent them. I've also learned that the private companies running CCTV here in the UK, can at will, remove a piece of footage if it reveals them in a bad light... My own housing authority has done it to me (cunts)...

The best thing Americans or indeed here in the UK any of us can do is, make phone calls and record these fools as we ask leading questions. Then if they get smartarsed later - upload them to the internet...

Give it 5 or 6 years and if we haven't been blown to pieces by nuclear war, we'll see the people in charge for what they are. Sad, lonely, no-sex we're godspawn wankers... They have everything negative coming their way. They have messed with the world for way too long...

(rant over)...
