putting the record straight
i guess the big secret is
to
stay
about
twenty one
all your life
like the great late DJ
John Peel,
like an eternal
adolescent.
and never believe anyone
else
or the paper
or anything or a poli,
unless what they say, write , report
is really
the truth
and has feelings attached
which is hard to
find these
days.
because
it
normally hurts,
the truth
that is.
and makes
you want to cry
or laugh
or both.
a friend said there were no
more
poets,
only critters.
an American phrase
which can mean
a child
in a non nasty way,
more of affection i think.
i guess the great poet
must be a critter
to see and report on things,
feelings,
life
fresh
like a kid
with a dirty nose.
they tell me i used to be a kid
once
but i don’t believe
them.
i still want to sing in
a
punk
band
that would have me.
get into
the top
ten
of anything
still going
strong.
I’m not
that bothered
really.
i can’t write
anything
tonight
not drunk
enough.
so i thought
I’d write
this
just to put
the
record
straight.
it takes guts
and maybe some
drink
to really
tell the truth.
I’m still
trying
or at least i hope and prey
i still am.
but
i never
prey.
well i do,
but only
when
the
truth
hits me
between the eyes
of my very own mind
and can even cause
a
wry
smile or two.
even i have
too
sometimes !
no pain,
no
gain.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN !
and the IKEA regime !

Massively superb poem mate. Like all your work that I've read elsewhere, I am sure I will return to it many times and find new nuggets of great insight and maybe even jump-off points for a poem or lyrics, essays, rants or short stories of my own...
Good to see ya posting to Rich. If you need anymore stuff uploaded to our servers, just holler and I'll sort it for ya dude...
